– Nathan Jones eyeing two new goalkeepers for Charlton Athletic in the summer transfer window.
– Goalkeepers Maynard-Brewer and Isted could face uncertain futures at the club.
– Charlton interested in Cambridge’s Will Mannion due to strong performances and potential for improvement.

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones is reportedly looking to bring in two new goalkeepers during the summer transfer window .

The Addicks are interested in signing Cambridge United goalkeeper Will Mannion, as noted by a report from London News Online. Mannion, a 26-year-old shot-stopper, is due to be out of contract this summer .

Additionally, Charlton aims to sign an experienced goalkeeper to compete for the number one spot.

Currently, Charlton has two goalkeepers under contract for next season, Ashley Maynard-Brewer and Harry Isted. Both players featured prominently during the 2023/24 campaign, making 25 and 21 League One appearances, respectively.

Charlton Athletic – Maynard-Brewer and Isted’s 2023/24 League One stats, according to Transfermarkt
Player Name Appearances Goals conceded Clean sheets
Ashley Maynard-Brewer 25 41 2
Harry Isted 21 24 3

The Addicks only kept five clean sheets during the entirety of last season, so it is not a huge surprise that Nathan Jones wants to bring in at least one new goalkeeper.

Maynard-Brewer and Isted’s futures could be uncertain

With Charlton rumoured to be in the market for two new goalkeepers, at least one of their current options is likely to depart the club.

Isted, who was ruled out through injury for part of the season, only made five League One appearances prior to Jones’ arrival in February. After his former Luton boss arrived at The Valley, the 27-year-old started all 16 of Charlton’s remaining fixtures.

Harry Isted at Luton

Maynard-Brewer began the season as the starting goalkeeper but was replaced by Isted after three losses in the first four games. Following Isted’s injury, Maynard-Brewer regained his spot until Jones joined the club. In 2023, Maynard-Brewer signed a three-year contract, while Isted signed a two-year deal after transferring from Luton Town on a free transfer the previous summer.

Neither Maynard-Brewer nor Isted is likely to be content as the third-choice keeper at Charlton. There’s a possibility that Maynard-Brewer could be loaned out, but it’s also plausible that both may leave permanently if suitable offers arise.

Charlton is interested in Cambridge United’s goalkeeper Will Mannion, who kept four clean sheets in 14 League One appearances during the 2023/24 season. Cambridge has offered Mannion a new contract, but Charlton sees potential in him, especially after he played a crucial role in helping Cambridge avoid relegation.

Mannion has made only 29 League One appearances in his career, but Charlton’s manager sees him as a promising addition. If Charlton signs Mannion, it remains uncertain whether he will start as the first-choice goalkeeper, especially since the club also aims to bring in an experienced keeper. With these developments, it seems likely that either Maynard-Brewer or Isted will depart once the transfer window is fully underway.
