Charlton Athletic eye Premier League coup as Birmingham City prepare to lose £4m hotshot.

Nathan Jones Eyes Reunion with Former Player at Charlton Athletic

Nathan Jones might attempt to bring a familiar face to The Valley this summer.

Charlton Athletic aims to climb up the league standings next season following a significant turnaround since Jones’ arrival earlier this year.

The club’s recruitment efforts will focus on strengthening the squad to compete at the top of the table, with Jones brought in as a manager rather than a head coach to leverage his negotiating skills during the transfer window.

Charlton Athletic Linked with Premier League Midfielder

Charlton Athletic is considering a move for Luton Town midfielder Luke Berry this summer, aiming to reunite the Premier League player with Nathan Jones.

Berry, who made 17 top-flight appearances this season, primarily as a substitute under Rob Edwards, scored a couple of goals and provided an assist. After Luton’s relegation, Berry has been released and is now a free agent, attracting interest from both Championship and League One clubs.

In addition to Charlton, newly-promoted Oxford United is also reportedly interested in Berry, according to Darren Witcoop. Berry won League One with Luton Town in 2019 and was part of their Championship play-off victory last season.

Although Jones is familiar with Berry from their time together at Luton, it remains to be seen if the prospect of reuniting with Jones will persuade Berry to drop to the third tier, given that he also has offers from Championship clubs.

Birmingham City star wants transfer

That’s according to BirminghamWorld, who report that the 10-time Wales international has suitors from the Premier League and Europa League winners Atalanta.

Wolves and Crystal Palace are two of the Premier League clubs linked with a move for the 19-year-old in recent windows. Meanwhile, West Ham have joined the race with Julen Lopetegui a fan of the player and newly-promoted Leicester City are also interested.

Birmingham City rejected a £4 million bid from Atalanta for James in January, despite the player’s desire to move, and could look to drive a hard bargain in the upcoming window.
