Charlton Athletic boss speaks out on Alfie May's future amid Huddersfield transfer interest

Huddersfield Town are yet to agree fee with Charlton Athletic to sign Alfie May, though they remain interested in the player, according to the South London Press.

May enjoyed an impressive League One campaign with the Addicks last season and finished as the division’s highest goal scorer with 23 goals.

Huddersfield Town’s scouts took note of his form and have been hot on his heels as they attempt to secure a move back to the Championship immediately.

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has emphasized that the club is not compelled to sell their top goal-scorer, Alfie May, to Huddersfield Town or any other competitor, despite ongoing speculation. Earlier this month, the South London Press reported that Charlton rejected an offer from Huddersfield for May, with subsequent attempts by the Terriers to secure a deal.

May, who moved to Charlton from Cheltenham Town last summer after a prolific spell, netting 27 goals in 50 appearances last season, has attracted interest from several clubs, including Huddersfield, where former manager Michael Duff has expressed interest in reuniting with him.

Jones stressed that while May is valued at Charlton, any decision regarding his future will be made in the club’s best interests. He emphasized the autonomy he enjoys in making such decisions, backed fully by the board, without external pressures, financial or otherwise, dictating their stance on player transfers.

“I want to ensure that decisions we make are for the benefit of the club,” Jones stated. “If retaining Alfie serves Charlton’s interests best, then that’s what will happen. We are not obliged to sell to rivals, regardless of the speculation surrounding Alfie.”
