Yang 2-Game Ban As Red-Card Appeal Dismissed

After Celtic’s appeal against his red card against Hearts on Sunday was rejected by the SFA at tonight’s hearing, YANG HYUN-JUN will miss the next two games.

Initially booked for an inadvertent high boot on defender Alex Cochrane, the South Korean winger’s verdict was contested by the Hoops hierarchy through the use of VAR.

Before there was a coming together, Yang was clearly trying to flick the ball over the head of the charging left-back.

The shocked Celt was shown a yellow card by referee Don Robertson, but things took a turn for the worst when VAR official John Beaton told his colleague to look over the incident on his touchline monitor. Amazingly, the referee came back out onto the field to remove the yellow and put on a red one.

Observing red… Hearts defender Alex Cochrane and Yang Hyun-jun collided in the incident that resulted in the Celtic winger’s sending-off via VAR and subsequent two-game suspension.

The contentious moment occurred in the fourteenth minute of the league match at Tynecastle. Assistant Beaton also interfered at that point, which resulted in a bizarre penalty kick for the home team in a 2-0 loss for the champions.

Last night, in a statement, a Celtic representative said, “We have received notification that the club’s claim has been dismissed.”

“It is obvious that we are shocked and deeply disappointed by this decision.”

Yang’s suspension may provide room for Nicolas Kuhn, a £3 million January acquisition who has had difficulty making an impression since joining. Brendan Rodgers might put the German flanker in the starting lineup for Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarterfinal match at Parkhead against Livingston.
