Matt O’Riley: Who is he?

When Matt O’Riley moved from MK Dons to Celtic almost eighteen months ago, he made tremendous progress. Despite having graduated from Fulham’s youth division, his rise to prominence was delayed until he relocated to Celtic Park. The young player, a London native, could have played for England, but he has opted to play internationally for Denmark.

The 23-year-old has played just once for Denmark since making his debut there last month. In the interim, he is having a fantastic 2023–24 season, making 26 appearances and scoring 17 goals. Together with eight assists, O’Riley has nine goals in the score.

The former Fulham midfielder has drawn the attention of multiple Premier League clubs, who have taken note of his progress. O’Riley has reportedly been linked to English powerhouses like Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. The team that is most actively interested in him is West Ham United.

Plot of West Ham United Swoop, Matt O’Riley

Given that West Ham significantly strengthened their midfield during the summer transfer window, their interest in Matt O’Riley is a little surprising. However, Lucas Paqueta’s future is still up in the air because he could face a betting ban. Furthermore, Tomas Soucek may depart from West Ham due to a deadlock in negotiations for a contract extension.

Thus, Matt O’Riley has become a realistic target for West Ham United. However, a transfer during the January transfer window is not anticipated. Celtic won’t consider any bids for the midfield player, who is 23 years old. The Danish international is also dedicated to the Scottish powerhouses.

When the time comes to sell him, Celtic will demand a club-record fee of more than £25 million. However, neither the club nor the player are looking to part ways with him, so a winter sale is not in the cards.
