SWPL ‘disappointed’ by Rangers Women ticket cancellation as Celtic ticket row receives firm address

The Scottish Women’s Premier League has voiced dissatisfaction with Rangers’ choice to revoke tickets for the Old Firm game at Ibrox for all Celtic supporters.

Rangers cancel 700 Celtic tickets for Old Firm women's match at Ibrox due to 'high risk' ultras - Scottish Daily Express

The Ibrox team announced in a statement on Saturday afternoon that they had chosen to bar away fans from accessing the stadium, citing the necessity to deter “risk supporters” from attending the match, after consulting with both Police Scotland and city rivals Celtic. The decision has drawn harsh criticism as a setback for initiatives to increase attendance at women’s football games. Celtic released a statement in reaction, and Hoops supporters Bhoys Celtic, who had bought part of the 700 seats that were originally reserved for the away team, responded angrily.

With their own statement, which Football Scotland has confirmed, the SWPL has now spoken on the contentious decision. It said as follows: “This development is disappointing as growing attendances is a key strategic focus of the league; we will be engaging with both clubs to fully understand the circumstances.”
