SUPERB Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, provides an explanation for his choice to sell David Turnbull during the January window.

The Irishman stated in December that he would prefer the Scottish champions to have a team of about 25 players, which is a substantial reduction from the present number of players employed.

Even though Yuki Kobayashi, James McCarthy, and Gustav Lagerbielke were all considered possible departures, the Hoops were unable to get them off the books [Anthony Joseph].

The fact that experienced midfielder McCarthy, 33, stayed in Glasgow after Volos FC made a loan offer to Celtic, confused many of the team’s more casual fans. McCarthy hasn’t played for the club since October 2022 [Sky Sports].

In order to lower the headcount at Lennoxtown, the Bhoys were able to arrange for Yosuke Ideguchi, Hyeokkyu Kwon, Mickey Johnston, Marco Tilio, Adam Montgomery, and David Turnbull to leave the building in various capacities.

Despite having only a few months left on his contract, Turnbull was perhaps the most noticeable departure during the mid-season window because his sale to Cardiff City returned £2 million to the team’s coffers [Football Scotland].

Given that Reo Hatate will be sidelined for five to six weeks due to a calf ailment, some Celtics supporters may be leery of the choice to sell Turnbull.

Tomoki Iwata has resumed training, but he isn’t working at his best right now. It’s unknown when the 26-year-old will be able to play again after his own injury difficulties.
