“Still”: Following Celtic’s loss to Hearts, Chris Sutton refutes what he is hearing on the BBC regarding the team.

Chris Sutton was quick to remind Robbie Savage that Celtic are still sitting top of the Scottish Premiership table after he suggested the club was in ‘crisis’.On Saturday, Brendan Rodgers watched the side suffer a morale-sapping 2-0 defeat to Hearts, one week after losing at Kilmarnock.

During the game against Hearts, there was some unrest in the stands, with chants of ’sack the board’ heard around Parkhead.

That has resulted in a lot of heat being put on the Celtic board and the powers that be, mainly to do with the club’s transfer business.

But Chris Sutton was keen to put Brendan Rodgers in the spotlight and how he needs to take ‘some responsibility’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

A large crop of these players did win the Treble under Ange Postecoglou last season, so a number of them are proven.

That’s why more needs to be asked of the Celtic boss, who you are now going to expect to be backed in the January transfer window.

Chris Sutton on Celtic defeat to Hearts

“Chris, who else do you want to hear from,” asked Savage. “What about fans of crisis club Celtic?!”

Sutton responds “Crisis club Celtic? Still top of the league!

“I do want to hear from Celtic fans. An insipid performance by all accounts.

“There are Celtic fans out there who will blame the board. They can blame the fact that there is a section of the Celtic support that still aren’t allowed inside Celtic Park.

“But surely Brendan Rodgers has to take some responsibility. He has gone back. Last season, it was Ange ball and now the level of performances have really dropped this season and Brendan has to carry the can for that.”

Celtic top of the Scottish Premiership

Amid the chaos, drama and abjectness of the past few weeks, the title is still in the hands of Celtic, even if Rangers have two games in hand.

Even if Rangers win those, the Bhoys will still be leading the charge at the top if three points are secured ahead of the meeting on December 30.

This team has already proven this season that they can secure the bragging rights after the 1-0 win at Ibrox.

And now, with even more pressure on Rodgers and the players, it’s time to deliver the goods again to try and put some life into this season.
