‘Ridiculous, hypocritical and unnecessary’ – Simon Jordan makes Celtic point during rangers rant

Simon Jordan recently commented on Rangers’ reaction to another game postponement against Dundee, criticizing the club for their strong statements. Jordan mentioned Celtic and the recent Glasgow derby, suggesting that Rangers should have played the postponed game last week before facing Celtic at Ibrox.

Rangers had expressed frustration when their match at Dens Park was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, marking the fifth time Dundee’s home games were disrupted this season. The rescheduled match is now scheduled for next Wednesday. However, Rangers’ outspoken response has stirred controversy, especially considering the game’s importance in the Premiership.

Jordan, a pundit on talkSPORT and former Crystal Palace owner, questioned Rangers’ stance, wondering why the fixture wasn’t played the previous week. He noted that both clubs had rejected an SPFL proposal to hold the game on April 2 or 3, just before the highly anticipated Glasgow Derby. Jordan criticized Rangers’ statement as “absurd, hypocritical, and unnecessary,” highlighting the irony in their position given their own challenges, such as fan allocations for matches against Celtic.

During his conversation with Jim White, Jordan pointed out the irony of Rangers criticizing another club for unprofessionalism while facing their own challenges. He suggested that if Rangers had the chance to play the game earlier and chose not to, their complaints seemed unfounded. Jordan also criticized the state of Scottish Premiership facilities and finances but took issue with Rangers’ tone, which he felt came across as arrogant and patronizing.

The frequent postponements in the league don’t reflect well on it, and while he could empathize with Rangers’ frustration, their statement appeared to be pandering and unconstructive.

He emphasized the importance of considering away supporters but raised the question of why the game wasn’t played last Wednesday when there was an opportunity to do so.

The situation also affects Celtic, as the postponed game leaves uncertainty going into the final stretch of the season. While many assume Rangers will secure three points against Dundee when the game is rescheduled, there’s still the possibility that they won’t until the match is actually played.
