Rewarding cheating- Sutton doesn’t miss the target as he fires back at Souness

Chris Sutton has hit back at Graeme Souness after the former Rangers manager accused him of being biased and attempting to influence VAR decisions. Sutton, who was co-commentating with Kenny Miller at Ibrox, was involved in discussing VAR decisions during and after the match.

Sutton has been vocal about his dislike for simulation, a topic he regularly discusses on his BBC 5 Live show with Robbie Savage. One of the most talked-about incidents involved Fabio Silva’s actions during a match, which drew criticism from Neil Lennon and Kris Boyd during a halftime break on Sky Sports.

John Beaton initially issued a yellow card for Silva’s actions but, after consulting VAR, reversed the decision and awarded a penalty to the home team. Sutton maintained his stance on the incident, while Souness suggested that pundits’ opinions could influence VAR decisions.

In response, Sutton dismissed Souness’s claims as “utter nonsense” and clarified that he was merely expressing his view on the incident. He emphasized that his commentary was based on what he saw and that he does not possess the influence Souness implied. Sutton also criticized Silva’s behavior, labeling it as simulation and expressed confusion over VAR’s intervention in the incident.

Sutton also mentioned Souness’s recent engagements with various football-related events but did not connect them directly to the VAR discussion.
