Australian outlet Ftbl reports that Tilio is ‘unhappy’ with his lack of progress at the Bhoys and that his representatives have reached out to Sydney FC and Melbourne City about a potential loan return.

Tilio has at least been included in Graham Arnold’s Australia squad for the upcoming Asian Cup, which could provide him with some game time, but the prospect of getting a chance at Celtic soon is very slim.

It could well be the best thing for him to head out on loan and get regular football under his belt before a decision is made on his long-term aspirations.

Marco Tilio still tied to Celtic until 2028

If Tilio has the ultimate ambition to make it at Celtic, a loan move to another Scottish club or even somewhere else in Europe would probably be more beneficial than an A-League return.

A Scottish Premiership switch would at least allow him to get used to the pace and pressures of football in this country.

Tilio is contracted to the Scottish champions until 2028 so even if he does end up leaving temporarily in January, it doesn’t mean his Celtic career is entirely over.

We’ve seen other players in the past head out on loan before returning to Lennoxtown with renewed confidence.

However, you get the sense that had Brendan Rodgers rated him as a potential Celtic player he would have had a more sustained opportunity given the injury and depth issues in wide areas this season.

This has been a frustrating signing all around so far and indicative of a confusing summer transfer window for the Bhoys.

Hopefully though, an agreement is reached so Tilio isn’t just sitting on the sidelines for the second half of the season.
