Report:Celtic star Matt O’Riley transfer fee shared amid interest from clubs outside Scotland

So far this season, Matt O’Riley has drawn a lot of interest from other teams. Due to his excellent play, clubs all across Europe are showing interest in the midfielder.

The 23-year-old has had an amazing climb to fame, and it appears that if and when Celtic decide to sell him, they might make a lot due to the growing international awareness that accompanies his Champions League performances.

What can Celtic anticipate obtaining for O’Riley, then?A record-breaking charge? The club appears to be targeting that particular amount of money after Anthony Joseph revealed what he was informed would be a reasonable payment to convince Celtic to do business.

Regarding Matt O’Riley, Joseph stated [on The Celtic Exchange Podcast] that Celtic is in a very strong position. He recently inked a brand-new, enormous contract.

“In the final few days of the transfer window, Celtic turned down Leeds United’s offer of £10 million, which kind of spurred Celtic to want to bring him down on better terms.

“I mean, based on the discussions I had, it seemed to me that Leeds would not have considered a proposal below £10 million when they approached Celtic with their offers.

But that probably wouldn’t have happened even with £15 million. I believe that in any case, it would have needed to be close to £20 million to start that conversation.

And that needs to be the case once more with a new contract. Given that he signed a new contract, I imagine Celtic wouldn’t have discussed it until there was at least £20 million, if not more.

Personally, I’m hoping Celtic doesn’t consider selling O’Riley in January. Now that the league title is at stake and there is a potential £60 million Champions League prize, it would be ill-advised for the club to even consider it.

Celtic should attempt to retain the 23-year-old for an additional season if they are able to win the league title.

O’Riley might stay if Celtic can give it another shot at the Champions League, but if they do, they will need to bolster their roster because he won’t put up with any more embarrassing losses in the continent’s premier competition.
