Considering the success of Jota, Reo Hatate, Yogo Furuhashi, and other players, Celtic’s hiring during the Ange Postecoglou era was highly praised. However, there were a few misses amid a sea of hits.

During Postecoglou’s rule, Alexandro Bernabei, James McCarthy, Yuki Kobayashi, Yosuke Ideguchi, and Benjamin Siegrist all relocated to Parkhead. Now, all five have been informed that they are free to depart in the New Year.

Celtic expected to depart in January

Football Scotland reports that Celtic are eager to reduce the amount of fat in Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Ideguchi has only made three appearances for The Hoops in the Premiership. That being said, Celtic should be certain to recover every penny of their £800,000 investment because the former Leeds United misfit is back to his best on loan at Avispa Fukuoka.

Ideguchi, who was recently nominated for the J-League Player of the Year award, is in talks to relocate permanently to Fukuoko, though Vissel Kobe is also making a move.

Ideguchi’s impressive performances in Japan may have given Celtic fans hope for a successful comeback, but with Rodgers already having access to players like Matt O’Riley, Callum McGregor, David Turnbull, Hatate, Odin Holm, Paulo Bernardo, and others, it appears there isn’t enough room at the Parkhead Inn.

Kobayashi, Siegrist, and Bernabei could all depart.

According to Football Scotland, Siegrist, the third-choice goalkeeper for Celtic, is also free to depart. Ditto forgotten man McCarthy and seldom-seen center-half Kobayashi, who has dropped behind Liam Scales in the standings. For the past 18 months or so, Bernabei, a £3.75 million addition from Lanus, an Argentine team, has suffered at the hands of Greg Taylor’s seemingly never-ending pursuit of personal development.

By shifting the attention from potential departures to arrivals, Rodgers has made room for a new center-forward to join the winning team after Christmas. The Premiership record fee of more than £4.5 million will be paid for Bojan Miovski, with Sydney van Hooijdonk, a benchwarmer for Bologna, and Mathias Kvistgaarden, an elite player for Brondby, also being considered.
