On Tuesday afternoon, Celtic FC B defeated Queen’s Park 1-0 to begin their Glasgow Cup campaign with a record of two wins out of two.

A strong showing from the youthful Celtic team was sufficient to secure the three points thanks to a goal from Colby Donovan in the first half.

Following their thrilling 3-0 triumph against rivals Rangers to begin their Glasgow Cup campaign earlier this month, the youthful Hoops went into the competition’s second matchday seeking further victory.

The Bhoys entered the game full of confidence, especially after a remarkable 4-3 comeback victory against Gala Fairydean Rovers during the previous week.

And their domination on the ball, enjoying the largest share of possession and opportunities, was clear throughout the performance.

Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata, who had been playing with the first team for a few weeks, were crucial to the game’s first several scoring opportunities.

Kelly worked the ball down the left, floated it to the back post where the Irishman was waiting, and the goalie made a great save to keep it from heading back across goal.

The youthful forward went close again not too long after. After he dug the ball out from under his feet, the goalie tipped the ball around the post just as it looked like it was going to the top corner.

Colby Donovan gave the Hoops a well-earned lead shortly after the 20-minute mark with his first goal of the season.

Following a deft maneuver that found its way to the defender, he lifted his head and unleashed a forceful low shot that found its way into the net.

Josh Clarke had to make a solid save at close range on a couple of the home team’s opportunities.

But throughout the 90 minutes, it was a dominant display, and that continued into the second half.

Bruno Davidson and Lenny Agbaire had excellent saves and were cleared off the line, but it was disappointing that they were unable to add to the score. The Celts were unable to increase their lead.

They made it two wins from two in the Glasgow Cup going into their last group stage match against Partick Thistle next month thanks to a goal from Donovan in the first half.

The youthful Hoops’ next game, however, is a return to league play on Saturday afternoon at the Excelsior Stadium against Berwick Rangers.
