Gio van Bronckhorst has come under fire for allegedly having a “bizarre” conversation over Celtic fans’ performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone.

The former Rangers captain was in the Netherlands providing commentary for RTL 7 during Friday night’s Champions League match between the Houston Rockets and Feyenoord, his other former team. The home crowd performed a moving rendition of the Gerry and the Pacemakers song, which has come to represent their team, before the game.

After Yankuba Minteh scored a penalty kick to cancel out Luis Palma’s early opener, the visitors thought they had secured a point. However, Matt O’Riley’s excellent set up play allowed Gustaf Lagerbielke to score a late header. While something that occurred prior to the game had already offended many watching at home, that would have irritated supporters.

Since most of the De Kuip followers couldn’t make it, they were eager to see it live on television. However, pundits Theo Janssen, Humberto Tan, and van Bronckhorst spoke nonstop during the crucial time, making it impossible for those in attendance to absorb it.

On social media, one person posted: “Amazing They’re discussing about You’ll Never Walk Alone at Celtic Park in the studio. Then it’s beyond your comprehension.”

Another person said, “This is strange. Just joking about and discussing You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
