A major pre-Viaplay Cup Final boost has been given to Rangers as worries about Aberdeen’s best striker Bojan Miovski’s fitness have grown.
The Pittodrie club values the Celtic-linked striker at around £4.4 million, but he is in the running to be cleared to play in Sunday’s Hampden Park main event after complaining of a hamstring injury.
After playing 77 minutes in last weekend’s 2-1 Scottish Premiership victory over Hearts, in which he scored his 12th goal of the season, the North Macedonian international alerted the Aberdeen medical team to his problem.
Barry Robson, the manager of the Dons, has not yet ruled out Miovski’s participation in Thursday’s Europa Conference League match at Pittodrie against Eintracht Frankfurt. Miovski won’t likely be risked against the Germans, though, since the North East team has already missed out on qualifying for the knockout stages and on the trophy that is up for grabs on Sunday.
During his Wednesday pre-game press conference, Robson stated: “We are still waiting on Bojan.” When he wakes up in the morning, we’ll check on him. We’ll decide on him on Thursday, hopefully nothing too serious.
“It’s a hamstring problem,” We’ll do our best to provide him with every chance. It’s not a major wound. Long-term, it won’t hold him back. Instead of weeks, it’s hours and days, so we’ll see how he is in the morning.
“I have faith in a group of our guys. We must ensure that our squad consists of as many players as possible.
Prior to considering their upcoming match against Rangers at the national stadium, Robson acknowledges that he wants to make sure his players focus on their upcoming match against the 2022 Europa League winners.
He said, “Listen, it’s not in my mind.” One of the best teams in European football, Eintracht Frankfurt, is your opponent. I must thus give that my whole attention, as must the players. We are not so naive as to believe that we can afford to underperform in this important game against some of the best players.
