The fact that Celtic has outperformed the Rangers in transfer revenue over the past ten years won’t come as a surprise.

As their much-discussed approach pays off, the Hoops have made £33 million in profit from player trade while the Light Blues have lost £10 million. It is based on recently released data from the CIES Football Observatory, which tracked club transfers during the previous ten years.

In recent seasons, the Celtics have sold both Jota and Tierney for a combined record £25 million. In Tierney’s case, this was a clear profit because the club’s academy created him. Among the players who have been sold on for large sums of money are Odsonne Edouard, Moussa Dembele, Josip Juranovic, Virgil van Dijk, and Jeremie Frimpong. They are currently awaiting a sell-on clause for the latter player.

Rangers made a record-breaking transfer sum when they transferred Calvin Bassey to Ajax, having paid pennies for the player when he was purchased from Leicester. They also made a huge profit when Nathan Patterson joined Everton. The only other notable selling in recent years was Joe Aribo.\After the Scottish Cup match, Scott Brown acknowledged Rangers’ fate while the Ayr manager called his team “second string.”

This indicates that they have a £10 million transfer deficit, much of which can be attributed to Michael Beale’s summertime attempt to restructure the team.

They had been barely ahead of Celtic in the previous five years, losing £7 million, but the net spend last summer made a significant difference.

After their actions in January and the summer of last year, Celtic are £6 million up for this season.
