Neil Lennon Hits Out At Philippe Clement’s

Neil Lennon has reacted to remarks made by Rangers manager Philippe Clement following the game regarding the choice to give penalties to both Celtic and Rangers

Lennon was perplexed by Clement’s response to the VAR intervention during the game, as he was not happy with the call to award a penalty for the handball.
“When I first saw it, I thought Johnston got the ball,” Lennon said, according to Sky Sports.

You might take another look and believe there was some contact, but it was not much.

“He encounters him. Moreover, the way he falls is embarrassing.

“It’s complete waffle that Philippe said that Goldson’s [handball] is not a penalty after the game. I’m not happy with that.”

Additionally, Clement stated that he thought Fabio Silva’s obvious foul led to the Rangers penalty and that the Portuguese striker shouldn’t have been booked in the first place.

[Daily Record] “It is not receiving a penalty,” he stated. Everyone understands that there is a penalty. Fabio Silva has been kicked in the knee. Therefore, nothing is being received. Even so, it is a little unfortunate that he is receiving a yellow card for it first.

“Having VAR is crucial in that regard. Nothing against the referee there. They have to make decisions quickly because it is so hard for them to see everything. It is impossible to see everything, which is why VAR in football is so crucial.

Regarding each penalty call, it is evident that Lennon and Clement couldn’t be more at odds, with referee John Beaton coming in between them.

Beaton finally concluded—albeit with the assistance of VAR—that both were penalties.

While Silva was accused of a foul, there was very little physical contact and the Portuguese player seemed to be seeking a penalty. In contrast, Connor Goldson’s handball on Celtic’s penalty was very evident.

In the end, VAR intervention altered the outcome of the match, awarding two penalties and disqualifying a goal.

The Rangers penalty award was definitely the most dubious of the three interventions.
