Manager: We want to sign off for winter break with positive result in Paisley

The Celtic team barely had time to enjoy their 2-1 derby victory over Rangers on Saturday before returning to Lennoxtown to get ready for their next game, which is this Tuesday, January 2, an away trip to Paisley.

Brendan Rodgers’ team is playing its first game of 2024, and after ending the previous year with a commanding victory over their city rivals, the Hoops hope to start the new year strong against St. Mirren.

“We played them earlier in the season and we had a tough game against them, and Stephen always sets up his teams really well,” said Brendan Rodgers in a pregame statement.

We’ll most likely be playing against a 5-4-1 or 5-3-2, so we’ll need to probe and play quickly, just like we did against Livingston and Dundee. However, we are desperate to end this phase on a high note.

“Even though Rangers had a full week to prepare and plan for our midweek game, we still go out and perform, and Tuesday won’t be any different.”

“On Sunday, we resumed our activities, recuperating, exercising, and preparing our plan. It is crucial to have support for your plans.”

Reo Hatate and Liel Abada both made welcome returns to the Celtic team over the weekend. The Israeli international entered the game as a substitute in the closing moments against Rangers.

However, the Celtics manager made it clear that he will not rush either player’s return from a protracted injury layoff.

He stated, “At this point in the season, you’re looking at the players’ physical condition and what they can bring.”

“With those two (Abada and Hatate), I’m not in a rush. They were happy to be involved; Liel received his minutes on Saturday because he is a little bit ahead of Reo.

“I don’t need to rush them; we have one more game left and then some time to get them up to speed.”
