Leading the race to sign a “fantastic” new £80,000-per-week player for Rodgers is Celtic.

More firepower in attack appears to be on Rodgers’ wishlist.

A recent report suggests that Celtic is expected to be first in line to sign a new forward during the January transfer window.

Celtic shape under Rodgers

Under Brendan Rodgers, the Hoops have struggled lately, losing to Kilmarnock and Hearts in the Scottish Premiership back-to-back.

Due to rival Rangers’ upcoming game, Celtic’s lead at the top of the table has been reduced to two points. Rodgers expressed his regret to the Hoops supporters after the team’s most recent 2-0 loss to Hearts at Celtic Park, saying:

It really is a painful one. For the first time in my two stints here, I would have to apologize to the fans because that kind of play is in no way close to what Celtic demands. Not even close to that. That kind of inconsistent behavior, mindset, and lack of desire is far, far below what this club expects. Sitting there in the middle of December with 60,000 in your account, that’s how you operate. That isn’t appropriate.

After just one goal against Kilmarnock and Hearts, the Northern Irishman might feel he has to bolster his squad during the forthcoming January transfer window. It looks like Glasgow is keeping an eye out for a new forward.

In the running to sign Fabio Silva is Celtic.

Sport Witness has reported that Celtic and Rangers are interested in signing Wolves forward Fabio Silva. Reports from Portugal indicate that both teams are in the lead to sign him.

Silva, who earns £80,000 a week, is getting ready to leave Molineux. Celtic and Rangers are “at the front of the race” for his services, though it is unclear if this would be a permanent or loan move. An unidentified Spanish club is also interested in Silva.

The 21-year-old moved from FC Porto to Wolves in 2020 for a reported €40 million, but things haven’t exactly gone as planned for the attacker.

Silva has made 72 appearances for Wolves across all competitions and can play as a left winger, center forward, or second striker. However, he has only scored five goals in his 72 games. (Transfermarkt:Fabio Silva statistics)

In recent seasons, he was loaned out to PSV Eindhoven and Anderlecht, where he seemed to find some form. In Scotland, he may try to resume his career.

PSV Eindhoven 19 5 2

However, Silva did attract the attention of Conor Coady, a former Wolves teammate, who had previously stated:

“We are aware of what he offers. This young man works every day of his life. Ever since he arrived, he has been amazing. You can see that he puts a lot of effort into being better and getting better. We are confident that he will perform well when he joins the club, and that is exactly what he is doing right now. It’s critical that he continues to grow, pay attention, and, ideally, receive our assistance.

In the upcoming weeks, it might be something to watch, as a potential struggle for his services between Celtic and Rangers appears likely.
