Celtic’s defeat to Kilmarnock has not only upset the supporters this week, it has apparently left John Hartson absolutely fuming.
The former Celtic hero criticized some of the players for their “shocking” attitude and added that the second half was totally inappropriate while talking about the loss.
Hartson stated on [The Go Radio Football Show] that the second half of the game is not something to be taken lightly.
“It was shocking, as I mentioned. Right now, I genuinely believe that a handful of Celtic players are coasting. Really cruising at this point.
“At this point in the season, you cannot afford the coast. Brendan Rodgers had to give them a severe talking to when they were behind 1-0 at halftime during their most recent stint at St Johnstone. They did well against Hibs in the interim, in my opinion, despite the draw at home against Motherwell.
“Celtic, they still haven’t won anything. There is still the league and the Scottish Cup to play for, but they are eliminated from both the League Cup and Europe.
“But right now, I feel like there are a few players who may believe they’re better than they actually are. They should start putting in more effort and performing.”
Which Celtic players are ‘coasting’ as Brendan Rodgers tries to find form?
Looking through the team you would hate to think that any of the players were being complacent so let’s take a closer look
Is Greg Taylor growing too comfortable in his position? With such little competition for his spot, the Scotland defender is almost guaranteed a starting place every week. It’s also not his fault. That is Celtic’s property.
I argued on TBR Celtic just last week that Taylor and the other two players should be removed off the field immediately. Maybe not this evening, but maybe this weekend, when the heart beckons.
Has Alistair Johnston succumbed to complacency too?To be honest though, Anthony Ralston isn’t really going to compete with the Canadian for a starting spot—he’s merely there as cover.
The wingers are another group.Johnston Mikey and Yang Hunjun. They don’t appear to be coasting. They just don’t measure up, in my opinion.
Neither has demonstrated any noteworthy qualities that would persuade me that they should be regulars in this Celtic team.
Daizen Maeda and Lilian Abada will be added to the team right away once they’re healthy. That indicates a lot about the futures of those two players at Celtic if that occurs.
We can only hope that the Kilmarnock loss will spark some players into action since Celtic cannot afford to have even one player injured, much less several, if they expect to defeat Feyenoord tonight.
