‘He’s not good enough’… Michael Stewart says Postecoglou signing is only playing for Celtic because of injuries

Brendan Rodgers is under pressure right now because Celtic is unable to achieve any sort of regular form in the Scottish Premiership and because of the number of injuries they are dealing with.

Due to an awful string of injuries this season, the Celtic manager is now having to start guys who he would not typically have chosen for a starting position.

Michael Stewart, a pundit for the BBC, notes that this is precisely what is going on with Argentine full-back Alexandro Bernabei.

Being the first-ever signing from Argentina, the 23-year-old was excited to join Celtic when he was signed by Ange Postecoglou back in 2022.

Nevertheless, it appears like Rodgers no longer thinks highly of Bernabei, and Stewart claims that Greg Taylor’s injury is the main reason he is getting a game.

“You look at the side, to go back to it, Stephen Welsh has come on, Tony Ralston has come on, young Vata is there as well; these are guys that really wouldn’t have been getting much game time before,” Stewart stated [Scottish Football Podcast].

“I know Bernabei arrived during Ange Postecoglou’s period, so it makes sense that he was taken off at left-back. He is insufficient. He is insufficient.

And because the team is overextended due to injuries, these guys are seeing an increasing amount of playing time. And the quality is just lacking.

It’s difficult to argue with Strewart’s statement in this case given, in Celtic’s 24 Scottish Premiership games this year, the 23-year-old has been a substitute on just two occasions and has been left out of the matchday squad fifteen times. [Transfermarkt]

It is obvious that Bernabei would not be adjusting and that Taylor would have fulfilled his dream of moving to Italy if he had not been hurt.

Given his involvement in Aberdeen’s first goal at Pittodrie, there are still questions over whether Bernabei will start against Hibs on Wednesday. However, one thing is certain: the former Argentina u23 international’s future at Celtic does not appear to be good.

Additionally, “Alarm bells” Michael Stewart is already noticing severe red flags with the £3 million Celtic player.
