John McGlynn, a former Celtic scout, has provided an intriguing look at Brendan Rodgers’ hiring practices during the Irishman’s initial tenure with the team.

Hired in 2015, during the Ronny Deila era, McGlynn was promoted from the recruitment team into an Opposition Analyst post shortly after Rodgers started his first season with the squad.

Prior to that change, though, McGlynn was employed by Chief Scout John Park, who helped find players for outgoing manager Ronny Deila. What McGlynn says here will refute the myth that most players signed with Celtic were forced to do so by the manager.

McGlynn said, “I got an interview and I got the job,” [Open Goal]. We were scouting, so we were dispersed around the area. However, I relished it.

It was excellent and provided me with a fantastic understanding of how much work goes into the backdrop of things while working with the guys to determine how they view players.

“Now, they had just signed Gary Mackay-Steven, Stuart Armstrong, and Nadir Ciftci when I visited in January 2015.”

That was occurring right around the time I started working there. Therefore, it was impressive to observe how thoroughly they were comparing and evaluating Armstrong, Mackay-Steven, and Ciftci in relation to players and their potential contributions.

“I dare think that the manager, or even John Park, would have to present that to the board and explain why the football team wants to add these players.

This past season, Celtic’s player acquisition process came under intense scrutiny, with many supporters believing that the manager has little to no input with the signing of most players.

Even though I realize that 2015 is a long time ago and that things can change, it must be consoling to know that there is at least a rudimentary team searching for players and that the manager is involved in selecting them.

It is imperative that the squad finds stronger players for the summer transfer window, as we risk falling behind our opponents for the first time in many years if the current group of players does not start to get better.

Additionally, “Toxic”Dermot Desmond might have to make a “unpopular” move at Celtic, according to Mark Guidi.
