First Celtic Player Called Up For Asian Cup; Surprising Inclusion

The Asian Cup in 2023 could cause Celtic a number of problems. It’s possible that a few of Brendan Rodgers’ main players will travel to Qatar in January, missing some crucial games for The Boys.

Although it is anticipated that players like Oh, Daizen Maeda, and Kyogo Furuhashi will travel to the Middle East, Marco Tilio is the first Celtic player confirmed to attend the competition:

The Socceroos have a slightly advantageous group that includes Syria, India, and Uzbekistan. It will be expected of them to advance from their division to the knockout stages, which continue until the final on February 10, 2024.

Tilio may miss a significant amount of time for Celtic, but given his modest playing time this year, Rodgers and his squad won’t be too badly affected. Although Tilio has been fit for the past few weeks and months, he has hardly played under the Irishman.

This raised doubts about his skill, but it makes his Celtic ban further puzzling given that he was selected for Australia’s Asian Cup team.
