Taking aim at Michael Beale for his “nonsense talk,” Chris Sutton has said that he’s not entirely sure how he got the Sunderland job.
Monday marked the 43-year-old’s appointment as Sunderland’s new head coach, following the dismissal of Tony Mowbray.
Fans of the Black Cats were miffed when Michael Beale took over as manager after the team had been connected to several foreign managers, such as Will Still and Kim Hellberg.
Before leaving QPR for Rangers last year, Beale had a fruitful but brief tenure. The Glaswegians were not happy with his stint, despite his impressive win %, and there was excitement when he left in October.
Beale’s remarks in his Sunderland interview that he was being “pulled in different places” have already enraged supporters more; Chris Sutton doesn’t appear to be impressed.
Beale has come under fire from the former Celtic striker for “pulling the wool over people’s eyes.”
Speaking on the podcast It’s All Kicking Off!, Sutton stated: “Yeah, Mick, good luck.
It seems like his best football skill is conjuring up false impressions of other people. I believe he mentioned being drawn to the Rangers in a different direction; which direction was that?
“I believe he referred to Ange Postecoglou as “lucky.” I mean, come on, some of the jobs modest Mick gets, some of the positions Mick gets, I think he’s lucky to have this job.
It’s a step down from Tony Mowbray, but we should give him some time. All managers must be given time. He does, however, speak incoherently.
“Merry Christmas and congratulations, Mick,” he said.
Can we stop talking about Rangers now?
Chris Sutton, who arrived at Sunderland the week before, joins Ally McCoist in criticizing Michael Beale.
It becomes sense that there is some resentment on both sides, but Beale’s firing by the Rangers appears to have dominated much of his appointment. Even at his first news conference, the coach talked a lot about Rangers, mentioning the players he had brought in and who went on to win the Scottish League Cup on Sunday.
Although Sunderland supporters have shown a great deal of interest in what Rangers supporters have to say about Beale, we must eventually get past it and concentrate on our own team.
We can be cautious and worried, but if we don’t just let him go and alter our minds on his own, we’re going to have a really difficult time in life.
