Philippe Clement has rejected the suggestion that Celtic might be Rangers’ biggest test this season.

The Belgian’s 16-game unbeaten start to his Gers reign will be in the balance today at the toughest venue they will face domestically when they head to the cauldron of Parkhead with none of their own supporters there to back them. There’s plenty at stake as a win would put them just two points behind with a game in hand while the Hoops can ease worries by stretching eight points clear.

But Clement insists today’s match is not the biggest challenge he will have faced during his short time in charge – and they passed the first. Rangers headed to take on Spanish side Real Betis, who earned a creditable result against Real Madrid days before, and against the odds managed to get the win that carried them through in the Europa League.

“That team hadn’t lost all season in a home game. They didn’t lose against Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid, who are really big teams.

“So, it’s going to be a big challenge. It’s a pity there can’t be Rangers fans but we know a lot of people will support us outside and on the screen and they will all be in our hearts.”
