After the Celtics’ loss, Ally McCoist discusses what he finds “strange” about the impending Rangers game.

The pressure has just intensified on Brendan Rodgers and Celtic after that defeat to Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Chris Sutton didn’t hold back on his criticism by calling the second-half performance ‘one of the worst I have seen from a Celtic team’.

For Ally McCoist, he thinks that the verdict lies ‘in the middle’ between the Celtic legend’s comments and praise for Kilmarnock, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (11/12/23 at 6:25 am).

The lead at the top between Celtic and Rangers is five points, with the latter having a game in hand.

December 30 is the day of the Glasgow derby at Parkhead, with Ally McCoist calling the date of that match as ‘strange’ because it’s usually after the New Year.

Either way, he thinks it’s a ‘big one’ because it’s now going to have an even bigger say on the title race.

Celtic’s unbeaten run ended at Kilmarnock

“The first thing I am saying is that I thought Kilmarnock were excellent, by the way in the second half,” said McCoist.

“But it’s somewhere in the middle between Chris (Sutton) and Brendan (Rodgers) comments, I thought.

On Celtic v Rangers on December 30: “It’s strangely before the New Year. They normally have it after the New Year. I think this is the first one before it, so that will be a big one.”

The manner of loss is even more disappointing for Celtic

The issue here is that many Celtic fans will rightfully claim that such a result and performance was coming.

The last time the Bhoys were on the road, Rodgers stated that he had never been angrier, before the three points were secured against St Johnstone.

On the European stage, you could throw in the argument that players like Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda are a miss.

But such excuses can’t be made in the league, as certain players, such as Mikey Johnston and on-loan Liverpool star Nat Phillips, are probably going to struggle to start again.
