CELTIC TARGET AN AWARD-WINNING £2M STAR WHO DID ‘INCREDIBLY WELL’ IN 2023

Hakon Rafn Valdimarsson, a goalkeeper for IF Elfsborg valued at £2 million, is a target for Celtic. His former teammate, an Icelandic international, has praised his “incredible” play.

Lesser guys can harbor resentment against Hakon Rafn Valdimarsson after he was demoted from Elfsborg and had to start over at Halmstads BK.

Not Tim Ronning, though.

The former Elfsborg top scorer, who last week completed a transfer to Allsvenskan rivals HBK, could not have been more complimentary of the guy who stole his starting position in goal, Valdimarsson, who among others won the respect of Celtic thanks to his outstanding performances.

Hakon Valdimarsson, the goalie for Elfsborg, is Celtic.

“It’s obvious that I was in a different seat. However, I trained hard, embraced my duty, and pushed Hakon. He’s performed incredibly well in Elfsborg. He’s done fantastically,” a gracious, grown-up Ronning tells Football Kanalen.

It wasn’t awkward (that he took my place), he’s a fantastic guy. During training, we supported and encouraged one another. For a goalie, there is just one position, but you have to approach it correctly.

You cannot lose it and start blaming him and other people for preventing you from playing. Whether or whether you wish to play is up to you. It’s all about giving a performance, which he has.

“So, nothing strange has happened.”

The Göteborgs Posten reports that Celtic is expressing interest in Valdimarsson. It seems that the difficulties faced by Gustaf Lagerbielke, another Elsfborg export, have not deterred them. The Hoops might have quickly found themselves in first place as well. Belgian teams Gent and Anderlecht are squabbling over the 22-year-old’s rumored £2 million price tag.

Who will replace Joe Hart?

Three-time Icelandic cap winner Valdimarsson took home the 2023 Allsvenskan Goalkeeper of the Year title. He is the second gifted young goalkeeper to be connected to a move to Scotland, maybe to take Joe Hart’s spot as he enters the final year of his contract. Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid may be more difficult to persuade to move to Glasgow than this player.

Whether Celtic intends to pursue Valdimarsson now or after Hart’s contract officially expires in the summer is still up in the air.According to HITC Football, Brendan Rodgers’ team is getting close to signing Nicolas Kuhn, a winger for Rapid Vienna, for £3 million.
