BRENDAN RODGERS took a swipe at the merchants of doom and gloom who insist Celtic are in perpetual state of crisis.
The loss of six Premiership points forced today’s opponents into the title fight, but a win at Parkhead would put Aaron Rodgers’ team eight points ahead of them with two games remaining for the Ibrox team.
Following victories over Livingston and Dundee, Scotland’s title kings were able to resume their pursuit of a twelfth championship in 13 years. This prepared them well for the second derby of the season, which Celtic won in Govan in September thanks to a standout goal from Kyogo Furuhashi.
“I think if you read or listen to everything you would feel we were in constant crisis mode here,” Rodgers said, looking forward to the meeting. That’s how I feel. However, that is not how I think at all.
We’re having another fantastic game. I believe that we were coming off of a less than stellar performance going into that most recent Rangers game. Despite our strong performance against St Johnstone, we were not successful.
“We are entering this time with a positive vibe.”
Speaking to the Daily Record, Rodgers was asked if the talk of a crisis felt any different from his first term in office. He responded, “It’s just levels, isn’t it? However, I don’t see a difference.
“Maybe that’s just the way things are in the real world. As a team, I think we’re still doing well. We’re going to get stronger, and hopefully the team will get better.
“We’ll see where we end up at the end of the season, like I say.”
When asked if the season could be defined by today’s meeting, the Irishman responded, “Not really, no.”
“There are still a lot of games to play, and even though we want to win the game, we have already won at Ibrox.”
