Brendan Rodgers is silent on Celtic’s Idah deal

Celtic finally announced the heavily predicted signing of Adam Idah around 10,30pm last night, an hour before the transfer window closed.

There is no mention of a possibility to turn the Norwich City striker’s loan into a permanent arrangement; it is only for the duration of the current campaign.

Since Idah’s transfer was expected since Tuesday night, the club’s media team had plenty of time to release the content that goes along with a new addition. The transfer occurred two weeks after Nicolas Kuhn’s arrival.

One thing was conspicuously absent from the club announcement: Brendan Rodgers’ support. There was not a single word from the manager, who expressed in November that four quality recruits were needed when he returned to the club in June, in the one and only Idah piece on the Celtic website.

Nicolas is a wonderful addition to Celtic. We think he is a dynamic player with great quality and all the necessary components to work well with our playing style.

He fits our ideal profile—he is a player with a genuine attacking purpose, tremendous speed and ideation, the capacity to create and score goals, and a high level of energy and work ethic.

I, along with the coaches here, am particularly looking forward to working with him because he is a versatile player who can play wide on both sides.

Following the announcement of Idah’s signing, the Celtic board, and Chairman Peter Lawwell in particular, came under heavy fire on Twitter. The player caught in the crossfire received pity and support.

In order to preview this Saturday’s game at Aberdeen, Rodgers is scheduled to hold a press conference today. While Matt O’Riley, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Reo Hatate all have injury worries, the manager’s opinions on Celtic’s transfer activities will likely be the main talking point.

Yesterday, Mikey Johnston was loaned to West Brom and David Turnbull was sold to Cardiff City. Neither transaction is noted on the Celtic website.
