According to a recent rumor, Celtic has reached out to inquire about a potential deal to bring one of its long-term objectives to the Scottish Premiership.
A look at Kvistgaarden
Brendan Rodgers will evaluate his possibilities in the market before January to see if there are any players he may add to bolster his team. If reports are to be accepted, one recently identified player is Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby.
After their initial offer for the striker was rejected over the summer, the Bhoys are apparently putting together a better offer. However, if a deal for him isn’t completed for any reason, the hierarchy seems to have other center-forward targets in mind.
Szymon Wlodarczyk of Sturm Graz only signed a contract with his new team during the previous transfer window from Gornik Zabrze, where he has played in 28 games thus far (Transfermarkt – Wlodarczyk statistics). However, he was already being considered by the board for a long time before to his most recent move.
Although a switch hasn’t occurred, which is why he moved elsewhere, Mark Hendry initially stated in January that the green and white stripes were interested in Poland’s youth international. Despite fresh efforts, it still appears the 20-year-old won’t be traveling to Glasgow anytime soon.
Celtic makes a Wlodarczyk inquiry.
Football Scotland reports that although Celtic inquired about signing Wlodarczyk again for the upcoming month, they ultimately determined they couldn’t afford to finalize a deal in January after discovering his price tag in a response from Sturm Graz.
“Football Scotland can also reveal that Celtic contacted Sturm Graz in an attempt to re-evaluate their pursuit of Szymon Wlodarczyk, a previous transfer target. However, they were informed that Wlodarczyk’s valuation had increased significantly to approximately £15 million, making them financially unattainable in January.”
“Highly talented” striker Wlodarczyk
Wlodarczyk has made 28 appearances since joining Sturm Graz, totaling 11 contributions (two assists and nine goals). This shows how productive he can be in the final third and how he can constantly threaten the opposition’s defense in the attacking half of the pitch.
Sponsored by Adidas, the native of Walbrzych has taken 32 shots this season, more than any other teammate, demonstrating his exceptional skill in front of goal as opposed to his colleagues (FBRef – Sturm Graz statistics).
At six feet two, Rodgers’ target can also give a big physical presence up top due to his height. In addition to his deadly abilities with the ball at his feet, Rodgers’ target can win aerial duels, which makes him a real headache for any backline to cope with.
Football scout Jacek Kulig has described Wlodarczyk as a “highly talented” player with a very bright future ahead of him. However, given that Celtic is not expected to spend big money to acquire their long-term target in the upcoming weeks, it could be a blow given the potential impact he could have had.
