£9.2m Celtic transfers provide uncertainty as ‘next level’ question provides harsh verdict on four stars

9.2m Celtic transfers provide uncertainty as 'next level' query lands harsh verdict

Alan Stubbs questions if the quartet of Celtic stars have what it takes to move the champs up a level.

The former defender has been observing as the Hoops go through a difficult period. After a sluggish January transfer window that saw only striker Adam Idah from Norwich City and winger Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna added, the transfer market has come under heavy criticism.

Rangers moved up to first place after a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock over the weekend, with Stubbs criticizing four Celtic players. Kuhn’s list of posers now includes Oh, Paulo Bernardo, the midfielder, and left-back Alexandro Bernabei.

Although Bernardo is on loan from Benfica, Bernabei cost £3.75 million, Oh cost £2.75 million, and Kuhn cost £4 million last month. With a total salary of around £9.2 million, Stubbs doesn’t think any of the quartet fit Celtic’s requirements.

He stated to PLZ: “Celtic must make due with what they have, but if their strongest lineup is on the field, then it’s a different scenario. I’m not convinced if the players on their bench from Saturday—Oh, Kuhn, Bernardo, and Bernabei—are capable of leading them to the next level.

“I find some of the signings confusing, and this might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for their hiring practices in the last eighteen months since Ange left.”

This Sunday, Celtic will play a pivotal Premiership match. They will need Hearts to defeat Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday in order to have a chance to close the gap when they head to Motherwell.
