Things couldn’t have gone much worse for Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers in 2023 but new head coach Dave Canales says he’s “really pleased” with what he’s seen from last year’s No. 1 pick thus far.

Speaking to reporters at the team’s OTAs, Canales talked about where Young’s at with the new playbook and how he’s looked on the practice field.

“He’s doing fantastic with it,” the coach said. “Deep ball, short intermediate, he’s just a really accurate passer. … I don’t have to worry about where the ball is going. He’s very accurate, and I know that … I think it’s the ability of Bryce to be able to throw to different body types, different speeds, different quickness at the top of routes. So I’m really impressed with that part of it.”

Young showed up to camp with some added muscle and looks like he’s ready to prove that the Panthers made the right decision in drafting him first overall. The ex-Bama star has been successful at every level of football but last year nothing seemed to go Carolina’s way.

If there’s any silver lining, Bryce never looked overwhelmed or like he was ready to fold. He just kept going out there trying to make a play and keep the offense on schedule.

We’ll see how Year 2 ultimately ends up shaking out for Young. But it’s certainly off to a promising start.
