Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Amaré Barno suffered a knee injury towards the end of the 2023 season and was placed on injured reserve, missing the final two games of the season. With the coaching change and the immediate focus on the coaching search at the close of the year, we hadn’t received any updates on Barno’s status.

“He sustained a significant ACL injury. “He’s doing great,” Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters. “He’s out on the pitch doing some straight-line sprinting today.

He’s been working with our athletic training staff every day to improve his strength and flexibility. We’re getting good reports, so he’s on track. I don’t have a definite timeframe, but he’s out there working and wearing his cleats, so I’m looking forward to bringing him back up to speed so we can practice at some point.

Last season, Barno saw an 11% increase in defensive snaps and made his first career start. In 15 games, he made 21 tackles and one tackle for loss. When you see him on the pitch this year, he will be wearing a new number. Barno wore the No. 90 jersey for the first two years of his career, which was made famous by Julius Peppers, a future Hall of Famer. Barno is now wearing No. 38, a number he wore while at Virginia Tech.
