After a disastrous £7 million move to a “massive club,” Middlesbrough, Aden Flint says he has “no regrets.”

Aden Flint confesses that Middlesbrough supporters didn’t witness his peak performance in Boro’s colors after his £7 million transfer from Bristol City in 2018. Despite signing a four-year contract, he only played for one season in Teesside before joining Cardiff City.

During his stint at the Riverside, Boro built a solid defense under Tony Pulis, narrowly missing out on the playoffs in 2019 before Pulis departed that summer. While acknowledging that his move didn’t unfold as desired, Flint emphasized the defensive achievements during his time there and expressed no regrets about relocating to the North East.

He also expressed confidence in Michael Carrick’s ability to handle the significant expectations associated with a club like Middlesbrough, given their devoted fan base.

Flint mentioned to Teesside Live, in collaboration with Sky Bet, “The transfer fee was substantial at the time, and there were high hopes for me at Middlesbrough. I had been scoring goals for Bristol City and was eager to make an impact. Unfortunately, we narrowly missed out on the playoffs due to goal difference. Under Pulis, we focused heavily on defensive training, which paid off as we had the best defensive record in the league. It’s disappointing that we couldn’t secure a playoff spot despite our defensive prowess.”

In his single season with Boro, Flint played 42 games before moving on to Cardiff, Sheffield Wednesday, and Stoke City. While admitting that he fell short of his own expectations during his time at the Riverside, he holds no regrets about how things unfolded.

He remarked, “My time at Middlesbrough was brief, and given the high expectations due to my transfer fee of seven million, it was a bit disappointing for both myself and the fans. It’s a part of football, though, and while I wish things had gone differently, I have no regrets about the experience.”

Under Michael Carrick’s leadership, Middlesbrough is once again vying for a playoff spot, displaying improved form and raising optimism among fans. Flint commended Carrick’s management, highlighting the club’s massive stature and the considerable expectations that come with it.
