Buddy Franklin could be a Brisbane Lions player next year after reports suggested that the AFL veteran’s family are keen for a move north of the border.

Franklin’s future is clouded by uncertainty as he nears the end of his nine-year deal with the Swans, worth $10million.

Sydney have sought to agree an extension with the 35-year-old, but have failed to reach an agreement with Franklin dissatisfied with the club’s reluctance to meet his demands.

Franklin, who joined the 1000 AFL goals club earlier this year, would still be a huge acquisition at most clubs despite him nearing the end of his career,

and a premiership contender could welcome the 35-year-old in 2023.

According to Channel 9, the Lions have emerged as a serious option for Franklin. It is understood that his wife, and agent, Jesinta Franklin, is motivated to move north to be closer to family on the Gold Coast.

Moreover, Franklin remains keen to perform at a high level and with Chris Fagan’s team in the mix for the premiership,

there is a real possibility that the 35-year-old can win his first flag since 2013.

His arrival at the Gabba would bolster an already healthy forward line for Brisbane, who boast Joe Daniher, Eric Hipwood and Charlie Cameron among their ranks.

‘I’ve played for 18 years mate so I’m pretty much used to all that commentary,’ he said when quizzed by Dockers legend Matthew Pavlich on Fox Footy.

‘You just put it to the side, move on, come out here, everyone as I said played really well and really happy with that win.’

Pavlich responded: ‘But you like the red and the white I’m sure?’

Franklin, quick to not fall into the AFL legend’s games, chuckled and shook Pavlich’s hand before walking off.

‘Too clever for Pav,’ Jason Dunstall reacted on Fox Footy. ‘He just brushed that one,’ Adam Papalia added.
