Adam Reynolds in staggering call on Sam Walker over NRL contract situation at Roosters

Walker’s future has become a hot subject since his Roosters masterclass on Anzac Day.

According to veteran halfback Adam Reynolds, Brisbane is already well-positioned for future success in the halves and does not need to pursue the signing of rival No.7 Sam Walker. The Roosters playmaker delivered one of his best performances of his career in a man-of-the-match performance against the Dragons on Anzac Day, setting up three tries and scoring 10 from 10 goals in the 60-18 thrashing at Allianz Stadium.

Walker’s impressive performance made him a highly sought-after young halfback in the NRL. The 21-year-old’s current contract with the Roosters expires at the conclusion of 2019 season, coinciding with Reynolds’ contract with the Broncos.

It’s led to the inevitable speculation that Walker may return to his home state of Queensland as a natural successor to Reynolds when the great No.7 retires. However, Walker dismissed those notions during the Anzac Day masterclass, stating that his future rests with the Roosters, where he feels at ease in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

“I love the Roosters – I look forward to hopefully having a long campaign here,” Walker said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to playing in Brisbane every few months, but here is home. There will always be speculation. “I’m content here.” Walker was speaking ahead of his team’s match in Brisbane, when “a crew of about 1000 people” are expected to greet the young No.7 at Suncorp Stadium, which he used to frequent as a child.

Adam Reynolds argues Brisbane shouldn’t chase Sam Walker.

The Roosters will be even more anxious to lock down Walker long-term after it was announced this week that halves partner Luke Keary will retire at the conclusion of the season. While the Broncos may be tempted to make a move for the youthful No.7, Reynolds argues the team “should stick to what we have” and not pursue Walker’s signature.
