Brisbane Lions forward Kai Lohmann was named the AFL Rising Star for Round 10 after scoring five goals against Richmond on Saturday night.

Lohmann was a dynamic forward for the Lions, totaling 14 disposals, seven marks, and two tackles in addition to his goals.

The 21-year-old is experiencing a breakout season which has seen him play in all 10 matches in 2024 as either part of the starting team or as substitute.

Brisbane Lions General Manager of Football Danny Daly said Lohmann has had to work hard to get to where he is.

“The Rising Star nomination is a great reward for the work Kai put in over the pre-season and the way he has been working on his craft,” Daly said.

“The last few years Kai has been knocking on the door of our team or was in and out because it was quite a tough forward line for him to break into.

“Despite starting as a substitute this year, he has made the most of his opportunities since joining our starting lineup, which is a testament to him.

“We love the energy he brings to the team, and he is starting to play some good footy, the challenge for him now is to keep building on that and do it consistently.”

The Lions selected the youthful forward, famed for his high-flying marks, with Pick 20 in the 2021 National Draft from the Greater Western Victoria Rebels.

Lohmann was born in Maryborough, Victoria, and played for the Maryborough Football Club before relocating to Ballarat to play for St Patrick’s College and Lake Wendouree.
