Arsenal set to release £85 million clause for Brighton’s outstanding striker

Arsenal remains connected to a potential summer transfer for Viktor Gyokeres, the striker from Sporting Lisbon. Gyokeres, who hails from Sweden, has impressed greatly for Sporting since his £20 million transfer from Coventry last summer.

In a recent match against Boavista, Gyokeres showcased his abilities by scoring a hat-trick in Sporting’s 6-1 victory, bringing his total goals for the season to 36 along with 14 assists. This remarkable performance has led to a total of 50 goal contributions for the former Brighton striker, surpassing the record previously set by Bruno Fernandes, who had 32 goals and 18 assists for Sporting during the 2018-19 season and is now a key player for Manchester United.

The Gunners are actively seeking a striker to provide a focal point for them in the upcoming season, and Gyokeres, aged 25, is among their considerations. He is under contract with Sporting until June 2028 and has an £85 million release clause.

Gyokeres initially joined Brighton from the Swedish club Brommapojkarna in 2019. Following loan spells at FC St. Pauli and Swansea, he moved to Coventry on an initial loan in 2021 before making a permanent transfer for approximately £1 million. During his time at Coventry, he scored 21 goals under Mark Robins’ management in the Championship, which ultimately led to his move to Sporting.

Brighton has a reputation for astute dealings in the transfer market, but Gyokeres is one player who slipped through their fingers. However, Mark Robins has demonstrated an ability to spot talented strikers, as evidenced by Gyokeres’ success at Coventry.
