Breaking news: Grimsby Town is considering re-signing a departing player from Bradford City without any transfer fee.

Bradford City has officially announced the release of Luke Hendrie, the former defender for Grimsby Town, as part of their retained list. Hendrie, who is 29 years old, will become a free agent at the end of next month, giving him several options to consider for his future endeavors.

During his tenure at Grimsby Town, Hendrie established himself as a dependable player, sparking speculation that the Mariners may pursue re-signing him for another stint at Blundell Park.

For Grimsby Town, securing Hendrie’s return would be a strategic move aimed at bolstering their defense for the upcoming season. After narrowly escaping relegation in the previous campaign, the Mariners aspire to improve their performance and vie at a higher level in League Two.

Under the guidance of former Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell, Grimsby Town is looking to overhaul their squad and cement a stronger standing in the league. Hendrie’s prior contributions to Grimsby, which include 121 appearances and five goals, underscore his value and experience in the Football League, with a career tally of over 250 games.

This wealth of experience would prove beneficial to the Mariners as they aim to progress in the coming years.

Hendrie has also represented clubs such as Manchester United, Derby County, Burnley, Shrewsbury Town, and Hartlepool United in the past. He joined Bradford City in 2022 on a two-year deal but featured only 22 times for the Bantams.

Bradford City’s decision to release him aligns with their preparations for the upcoming campaign under Graham Alexander, following their missed opportunity to secure a spot in the playoffs on the final day of the season.
