Pete Townshend Confirms New Solo Album and The Who’s Final World Tour in 2025
Fans of Pete Townshend and The Who have every reason to celebrate as the legendary guitarist and songwriter has officially confirmed the release of a long-awaited solo album along with plans for The Who’s final world tour. In a recent interview, Townshend revealed that his new solo album—his first in over a decade—is slated for release in late 2025, and will feature a blend of introspective acoustic tracks and electrifying rock anthems.
“I’ve had a lot to say, and finally, the time feels right to share it,” said Townshend. “This album is personal, but it’s also full of the energy that’s always driven me. I think fans will hear echoes of the past but with a very present voice.”
Even more exciting for longtime followers, Townshend also confirmed that The Who will embark on what he’s calling their “last global lap,” a farewell world tour that will begin in the UK and continue across Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. The tour will celebrate the band’s six-decade legacy, with performances of classics like Baba O’Riley, Won’t Get Fooled Again, and full renditions of Tommy and Quadrophenia.
“I don’t like calling it a goodbye,” Townshend shared. “But this is likely the final time we take The Who around the world. We want to thank the fans who’ve carried us for so long.”
The dual announcement of new music and a final tour marks a high point in Townshend’s storied career, offering fans a powerful and emotional send-off from one of rock’s most influential figures. Ticket sales and album pre-orders are expected to begin in the comi
ng weeks.
