Here’s how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players’ performances, with a six representing par for the course.
Leopold Wahlstedt – 8
Pulled off a number of good saves and was quick off his line to keep Rovers ahead. Best performance for some time.
Callum Brittain – 6
Battled against injury to start again for Rovers. Had a few lapses in concentration defensively but dug in when they went down to ten.
Dom Hyam – 6
Looked more at home when Rovers were forced to switch to a back four. Organised and marshalled the defence.
Kyle McFadzean – 4
Had been caught out a couple of times already with balls over the top and he was then sent off for bringing down Hardie. Hard to know how much contact there was but he was clean through.
Scott Wharton – 6
One big miscommunication with McFadzean in the first half which saw Hardie go clean through. Most of the danger came down that side. Won plenty of headers and was solid with ten men.
Harry Pickering – 6
Whittaker and Mumba caused plenty of problems down that side but he stuck to the task. Had a volley saved by Cooper.
John Buckley – 6
A quiet game in the middle of the pitch. Started well but didn’t see much of the ball as Plymouth dominated.
Yasin Ayari – 7
Set up the Szmodics goal after a nice give and go with Sigurdsson. Battled hard with Rovers down to ten.
Sam Gallagher – 5
Fairly isolated and pinned back by Plymouth. Looks like a free week will do him the world of good after so much football in a short space of time.
Arnor Sigurdsson – 6
Could’ve scored a second for Rovers but hit the post. Worked hard for the team once they were reduced to ten.
Sam Szmodics – 7
Took his goal really well again. He is standing up every single game for this team. Lived off scraps after that.
Substitutes:
Jake Garrett (Buckley, 59′) – 6
Put a few tackles in to try and break Plymouth’s momentum.
Tyrhys Dolan (Gallagher, 59′) – 6
Spent most of his time in the defensive third as Rovers hung on.
Ryan Hedges (Sigurdsson, 72′) – 6
Good to see him back after a few weeks out.
Unused substitutes: Michalski, Koumetio, Chrisene, Moran, Markanday, Telalovic.
