A former Leicester defender on the move to Birmingham having experience from Sunderland, Blackburn as well as Hibs

Mark Venus is a well travelled man in football. He had a long lasting career as a player, moving from Hartlepool to Leicester as a teenager and playing for the club at the highest level, completing 61 league games and scoring 1 goal from 1985 to 1988.

He joined Wolves and stayed at Molineux for 9 years, becoming a club legend, playing 287 league games and scoring 7 goals, before taking the trip to Ipswich.

During the days at Portman Road, Mark Venus, met up with Tony Mowbray, as a long lasting relationship in football started. When Tony Mowbray took charge of Hiberninan, being his first full job in management, earlier having done a caretaker job at Ipswich, Venus went along as a player coach.

He has since those days together at Easter Road he and Tony Mowbray has been in partnership ever since, Mowbray as the main man and Venus as his assistant. Venus has from time to time taken over interim positions after Mowbray, getting those roles at Hibernian, Middlesbrough and Coventry.

They were last together at Sunderland, being in charge at Stadium of Light from August 2022 to December 2023, before that time having the same roles at Blackburn, being five years at Ewood Park.

A partnership that could work well at Birmingham and hopefully being able to steady the ship and keep the Birmingham team a steady performer at Championship level, and if possible bring them into a promotion fighter, as the two have the experience to do a proper job.
