“Would be a big miss” – Blackburn Rovers fan reveals contract concern after January interest

The player for Blackburn Rovers’ contract expires at Ewood Park in the summer.

This post is a part of Football League World’s “Terrace Talk” series, in which our FLW Fan Pundits provide their personal thoughts on the newest breaking news, teams, players, managers, possible additions, and more.

Tyrhys Dolan, a winger, was retained by Blackburn Rovers after the January transfer window closed on Thursday night, in spite of late Premier League interest.

Tottenham now want to sign Tyrhys Dolan just two years after Preston exit

Journalist Ryan Taylor of The Mirror claims that late in the window, Luton Town paid interest to the Rovers forward.

Jon Dahl Tomasson will be relieved that he has not lost another of his key players after losing midfielder Adam Wharton to Crystal Palace on deadline day in a move reportedly worth over £18 million, with add-ons.

And with Dolan’s contract expiring in the summer, FLW’s Rovers fan pundit Toby Wilding thinks it’s imperative to ensure his future at Ewood Park as soon as possible.

While Wilding thinks Rovers will attempt to activate the option of keeping Dolan in Lancashire for an additional year, he can also see why the Premier League is showing interest in the 22-year-old.

“I hope he doesn’t (leave) – I think we saw how important of a player he is to this team with that sort of intensity he brings on Monday night when he returned to the starting line-up against Wrexham,” the man stated.

It is a huge boost for everyone when he plays to have that desire to assist carry the side because he doesn’t give opponent defenders any time on the ball.

“His contract expires in the summer with a 12-month option, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him attract interest. However, he would be a big miss if he went.”

“It’s likely that Rovers will choose to cash in while they have the opportunity, even though I do think the option will be exercised if they are unable to sign him to a longer-term contract.

“I hope that things change now; with the window closed, getting Dolan a new contract has to be one of the club’s top off-field priorities over the next few months. If that situation stays the same, it might be difficult to keep him.”

Tyrhys Dolan is likely to be very important for Blackburn Rovers.

Despite missing much of the season due to a knee injury sustained in November, Dolan returned to Tomasson’s team for their FA Cup fourth-round victory over League Two team Wrexham.

Dolan, who joined Rovers from Preston North End in 2020, has grown to be a vital component of the team’s offensive output. He had his most fruitful season at Ewood Park this past season, with 13 goals in 48 games across all competitions.

His absence from action may have coincided with Rovers’ sharp decline in the Championship standings. Many had hoped that their eighth-place finish from the previous campaign would serve as a springboard for them this year, but that hasn’t happened.

Dolan is among the five Blackburn Rovers players whose contracts expire in the summer; he is possibly the guy the team will be most eager to extend.

His energetic and fast-paced style of creating opportunities for players like as Sam Gallagher and Sammie Szmodics cannot be understated, nor can it diminish his importance to the side.

Dolan will be essential to Rovers’ hopes of improving recently, especially with the signing of Duncan McGuire on loan from Orlando for the balance of the season.

Rovers would be severely harmed if they lost him in the summer, so they will be hoping to work out a new contract before any serious suitors show up.
