Rovers are delighted to unveil the signing of striker Duncan McGuire from MLS side Orlando City, subject to international clearance and visa requirements being approved.
The 22-year-old joins on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.
The USA international, who will add a different dynamic to Rovers’ attack, becomes our sixth signing of the January window, following Yasin Ayari, Ben Chrisene, Connor O’Riordan, Kyle McFadzean and Billy Koumetio.
After a prolific college career, McGuire moved into the professional game with Lane United in 2022.
He continued to impress and was subsequently selected in the first round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, before being officially announced as an Orlando player in February 2023.
McGuire finished as the club’s top scorer last season with 15 goals in all competitions and capped off a memorable 12 months by making his international debut for the United States against Slovenia less than a fortnight ago.
Rovers’ latest recruit will train with his new team-mates for the first time tomorrow and will wear the number 50 shirt during his time at Ewood Park.
“We are really pleased to have secured the signing of Duncan McGuire,” said Rovers’ Director of Football Gregg Broughton.
“A Nebraska boy, whose rise to the MLS is a great story and now we hope to continue that trajectory with Blackburn Rovers.
“Quick, with good movement and a great finisher, Duncan has all of the attributes needed to follow in the footsteps of the many great strikers who have worn our famous colours.
“I have to give our recruitment team great credit for identifying him, tracking his progress and convincing him that this was the perfect next move for him in his career.”
Welcome, Duncan!
