Wrexham, Birmingham City and Rotherham United target to become free agent

Marko Marosi, a target for Wrexham, Birmingham City, and Rotherham United, will formally depart Shrewsbury Town at the end of the month, the club’s official website has confirmed.

When the goalkeeper’s contract expires, Shrewsbury Town will sever connections with him, and he will be free to choose his next move in the game.

According to a report by the Shropshire Star, Marosi, 30, is being watched by fellow League One clubs Birmingham City, Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town, and Wrexham.

“I want to thank the club for bringing me in and letting me be part of its history,” he stated on the Shrews website. Not just the football team but the entire crew behind the scenes is what I want to thank: the managers.

“And finally, I just want to say thank you to all of my fans—you guys are incredible—for your love and support over the past three years.”

The availability of Wrexham, Birmingham City, and Rotherham United is the goal.

Marosi began his playing career at Wigan Athletic, however he never played for the North West team as a senior.

After relocating to Doncaster Rovers in 2014, he played 95 games in all competitions for their first team.

Then Coventry City approached him, and in his debut season under Mark Robins, he was a member of their team that earned promotion from League One.

The former Slovakian youth international played in 61 games for the Sky Blues prior to his 2021 transfer to Shrewsbury Town.

Marosi was the Shrews’ top player for the previous three years, so it’s unfortunate that they lost him for nothing.

What comes next?

After being promoted from League Two, Wrexham is getting ready for life in the third division.

Birmingham City, Rotherham United, and Huddersfield Town have all dropped out of the Championship and will be vying for an instant promotion.

Marosi has suddenly become available, and they can all view him as a way to strengthen their respective goalkeeping departments.
