Wayne Rooney acknowledges that following six losses in his nine games as manager, Birmingham City is in a “difficult place.”

At the final whistle, 4,000 fans expressed their unhappiness as the Blues lost to Coventry City at the CBS Arena on Friday night, their eighth successive away loss. On yet another disappointing night for Rooney’s team, Callum O’Hare, a former player for Aston Villa, scored a brace for the Sky Blues.

With our recent performance and the number of points we’re losing, we know we’re in a tough spot, Rooney remarked. “The main issue is that the goals we’re giving up are really subpar goals. We need to work it out and be careful not to give up on simple objectives. The current run of form cannot last.

“I can certainly relate to the supporters’ dissatisfaction. This is typical of a run of outcomes like that, and we need to fix this as soon as we can. I would be exactly the same if I were a fan in the stands tonight. However, I can assure you that we are doing a lot of effort to correct it and enhance output and performance.

In the build-up to O’Hare’s opening goal, Siriki Dembele gave up the ball cheaply at halfway. Recent games have included a lot of individual mistakes, and Rooney is aware that this needs to improve.

“We need to stop punishing ourselves when we make mistakes,” he continued. Coventry was the superior team for the whole ninety minutes, and they should have won.

“We disappointed ourselves with the goals we gave up. I have to motivate the guys to play better and score more points than we have. That is my job. When you give up goals that you could have prevented, it is disappointing.
