Wayne Rooney, the former Birmingham City boss, has transitioned into punditry following his sacking from the club two months ago. He has joined the BBC’s team of pundits and will provide coverage for Manchester United’s FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest. Rooney, who holds the record for Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer and won the FA Cup with them in 2016, expressed his excitement about joining the BBC’s coverage, stating that watching the FA Cup on BBC was special for him growing up.

Rooney mentioned his experience as a player and manager in the FA Cup and expressed his enthusiasm for contributing to the coverage from a different perspective.

His tenure at Birmingham City ended after a defeat to Leeds United on New Year’s Day, where the team lost nine out of fifteen matches under his management, leading to a drop in the Championship table standings.

Despite being linked with a move into boxing following his exit from Birmingham City, Rooney stated that his focus remains on getting back into management. He clarified that while there have been offers from boxing, his priority is to return to coaching.
