In their close loss to Watford, Mark Venus commended his Birmingham City players, saying they “gave everything.”

Blues lost 1-0 for the third time in a row in the Championship, and they are currently the only team remaining above the relegation zone due to goal differential. The Blues haven’t fallen into the bottom three before the international break thanks to Huddersfield Town’s inability to defeat Rotherham.

Blues temporary manager Venus stated, “I can’t protect the players for Tuesday evening, but I can protect them today.””I believe that they gave it their all on the pitch. We often discuss how some quality is missing, and I believe it was once more demonstrated today. However, all of that was present today in terms of intensity, vigour, drive, goal, and team spirit.

“We must finish stronger. Let’s put it bluntly. We need to improve our finishing, our ability to put the ball in the net, and our overall calibre. While there are still things we need to improve on, everything else was there today.

Emmanuel Dennis took advantage of a clear error made by Ebeneel Aiwu to score the game’s lone goal. Dennis punished the Blues centre back for his hesitation while in possession, as he was on the brink of his own box.

Venus remarked, “It was preventable. He took a few dawdles with the ball. His performance tonight, in my opinion, was outstanding. Really, I think every defender was amazing.

“We all feel bad for him, including me. When he made the error, everyone supported him and encouraged him to keep going because of the strong team spirit present. We’ve paid a price for it.

“He is in pain. Everybody is in pain. He committed an error that cost him a goal. He’s a fantastic man and a professional football player.

He needs to go beyond it quickly, but you don’t want to be the one to make the error that costs you three points. He still has eight games left, so he needs to perform with the same fervour and avoid making that one mistake.
