The three players from Birmingham City who might not suit up for the team again

Birmingham City have had four permanent managers in the dugout this season, with John Eustace, Wayne Rooney and Tony Mowbray. This lack of consistency certainly matches their performances out on the pitch too.

As things stand, they sit six points above the drop zone and are 16 points behind 6th placed Hull City. With this in mind, the Blues may already have one eye on next season.

In the summer, Birmingham City are likely to want to revamp their squad in the hopes of improving on their league position in the 2023/24 campaign. This means players could be on their way out and here we look at the players who may have played their last game already for the club.

Scott Hogan

Hogan was a player linked with a move away in January, with Sheffield Wednesday keen. However, the switch away from St. Andrew’s didn’t materialise and he has found his playing time significantly limited having remained at Birmingham City beyond the transfer deadline.

Since the start of December last year he has made just four appearances and has missed out on the matchday squad entirely on five occasions during that time. It seems his days are numbered and could be eyeing a move elsewhere in the coming months.

Neil Etheridge

Although he played two games back-to-back earlier this month, these were his first appearances of the Championship season so far. He is undoubtedly second choice behind veteran John Ruddy and so may not get another opportunity between the sticks before the campaign comes to a close.

Now aged 34 he is likely to want to be playing consistently as he winds down his career. A move away from Birmingham City looks the most likely outcome in the summer, and he may have played his last game already.

Marcel Oakley

Finally, young full-back Oakley isn’t likely to get any more opportunities in the first-team fold this season. He has played a combined 27 minutes across two appearances and has only appeared on the bench a further eight times.

With his contract up in June, he could become a free agent in just four months time. However, given he is just 21 years old and potential to fulfil, it is possible that Birmingham City could offer a new deal to the academy graduate.
